I took a bit of a needed break from the forum and from Facebook. I am beyond delighted to report that finally, finally, following week after week of temperatures between 104 - 118 today's high was only 90 degrees. This evening is so pleasant, I have the windows wide open and only one small fan turned on. I felt a real breeze, the fresh kind that comes this way from the coast, blow through the window a while ago; for the first time since July I felt like I was breathing real air. The coming days will bring temperatures that are normal for mid-September - and cool nights. I could not feel more grateful.

There are a number of major wildfires burning, unfortunately. The closest one is bringing some smoke here. So far, no ash. Sadly, the last I heard the fire was not at all contained.

In 1977 then-Prince Charles came to California. My mother took me to see him when he disembarked from the plane at a small airport in Sacramento. My mom and I were standing in front, against the barricade. When Charles walked along the line of people I was able to shake his hand. I remember that he was tall, had a large hand, and was very kindly. As he passed by my mother said to me, "One day that man will be king." So that day has come. King Charles III.

(I do hope his reign is much more successful than the previous King Charles' were )

Well, I am going to watch the movie about Lynyrd Skynyrd, If I Leave Here Tomorrow.
