Saw this question on another site and have found it quite interesting to think about

For me, I’d walk in, sit on the floor then T would walk in, rearrange some stuff and sit on the floor next to me. T would ditch the paper and pen, tell me that she’s here and that it’s okay, and she’d just sit with with me. No words needed except the occasional reassurance or safety reminder. Ideally, this would lead me to feel emotionally safe enough to let the walls down a little and shed some tears. T would then perhaps gentle put a hand on my shoulder, or reach for my hand.
I’d leave the session feeling drained, but held and supported. I wouldn’t be afraid of her seeing “me” from then on.
