I think I understand your frustration, but I'd like to point something out to you. I don't really know your situation so please don't take offense at this.

You know that there has been an emphasis on mental health lately. (Just a generalization) also, I don't know your age but some businesses, organizations, etc, have also been more aware of disability or aging issues. IMO offering help or assistance or support is not an insult or put down. Some caring individuals or organizations are sincerely out to help others. Also, in medical situations they might be required to ask if you need help, etc.

I understand you may take it as them saying you're helpless or feeble but most of them mean well. I'm at an age and condition where I welcome any help, assistance or support I can get. It makes me feel cared for rather than insulted.

Maybe you could accept some help and see if it works for you? If not you can always bow out.
