I'm using an app called Headspace. They provide guided meditations, which is helping me, as I am a beginner too. They also guide you through those invalidating thoughts and feelings.
For instance, they say to let the thoughts and feelings come and go, to notice them, to identify them as thoughts and feelings and then to softly returning your focus to breathing. There's no shame to drifting off, that's the nature of things.
