It really depends for me, if I'm in one of those walk in chain places, that I sometimes go to in emergencies, I always tip, because I know the owners expect it and factor that into employee wages. If I'm at a salon and it's the owner who cuts my hair, I don't usually tip becasue i figure he's usually set prices to cover his costs and ensure a fair profit.

I recently started going to a salon that's very reasonable, by local standards, and whey you pay be credit card they actually cross out the tips line and write included on it, which I really like.

I'm very generous tipper when I go to the spa for the day for the beuticians who do my manicures / pedicures because I know they get paid crap.
