No, I don't think it's a bad thing to do. I adore spiders (except for black widows, because they truly are dangerous and can even kill a cat or dog. The only other dangerous spider we have here is called a "Brown Recluse." To my knowledge, I have never seen one). But most spiders are harmless and do only good. Spiders need food, just like everyone.
I used to own 2 tarantulas, Daisy and Vivienne. They were "rosies," meaning they had rosy-colored feet that looked like little boots. Those tarantulas were fascinating! For example, they keep their cages/homes very tidy.
