I actually do remember the dream now. Writing about it jogged my memory. More of a recurring nightmare and/or adventure dream. I've had versions of this since I was a teenager.
I'm being chased by your ghoulies, ghosties, monster of the week types, but I have an ace up my sleeve. If I turn and face the monster and focus, I can make it stop in its tracks. The issue: I always have multiple monsters chasing me, but I can only really focus on one. If I break that focus, the monster starts moving again, seemingly faster than before. The dream always ends with me face to face with one of the monsters, just hoping the others are far enough away. I blink and I wake up.
Leave it to my subconscious to make the typical chase dream so much more complicated and stressful!

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
