Maybe you're not old enough to, yet. And maybe I'm not, either. I don't know. People who are older seem much more okay with not being always liked than younger people do.
There was a man my husband worked with, a long time ago, and he once told David he didn't like me. I was devastated! I was always friendly and very polite to the man; how could he not like me? We'd barely ever spoken. ??? Who knows. Perhaps I reminded him of someone in his past. Maybe...something else. Maybe he misunderstood me. He was a suspicious guy. Most importantly: maybe his dislike of me had absolutely nothing to do with me. One thing's for sure, his disclosure to David sure taught me something about not taking things personally.
That poem was a tough one for me to swallow! ...so "gritty." So Thatcher. It literally stings me to read it. But - I think Nammu makes a very realistic point, when all is said and done.
