My two/too terms: “lol” and “LOL”.
My bro and I, along with approximately 843699538 others on the internet, have always used “lol” for laugh out loud.
When my dad started texting, though, in his early 70s, I received this message from him:
“I’m sorry your cat died.
lol — dad”
I knew he meant “lol” to mean “lots of love”, of course, but I felt I needed to clarify. After a brief explanation of internet shorthand, our family agreed that “lol” (lowercase) would still mean “laugh out loud”, and established that “LOL” (uppercase) would mean “lots of love”.
Now that he is gone, this text is one of my favorite memories.
It makes me tear up but, it makes me smile
