I don't spend a lot of time online, and I've never done much texting or anything where shortcuts are used way more.
There's also LMAO (Laughing my ***** off), which I think is usually used in the upper case, but like you said the context tells you the meaning.
I noticed this in the emojis on here:

The "codes" for both are ROTFLMAO and rofl. As far as I know, there's no other meaning than laughing. (Unlike for lol)
