I do understand situation with a cat. But most places rent for people with cats. It’s like everyone in UK has a cat. One doesn’t need more rooms for cats.

But no one “needs” 2 or 3 bedrooms. One might want that, but if cannot afford it, then they should live in one bedroom. Or a studio. Rough areas I do understand. One wants to avoid that if possible

Helping with a move is fine. It sounded as you planned to help with buying a house. They sound somewhat entitled.
