I ended up being the "first responder" to a medical crisis at work yesterday. A woman, with her toddler, was feeling faint and seeing spots asked for some help. In the time it took me to get someone informed, she collapsed. I immediately threw protocol out the window, stole a walkie and got people in power and people with training at this store over. I also called 911. I had CPR and First Aid training, but enough people were there and around her that I just stayed with the 911 operator, answering questions as she asked. She was drifting in and out of consciousness, turning blue, all while her child wailed in the background. High drama that I would rather not revisit. I was a razor's edge away from performing CPR myself (at 911's request) when the paramedics showed up in the nick of time. I stepped away, disconnected and let them do their work.
