Although it is a tranquilizer, it is known to have a mood stabilizing effect to it. However, it is never used as a stabilizer for somone who has swings-- it is normally a good tranquilizer to take in conjunction with another med if you do have anxiety plus bipolar disorder or any other disorder involving mood swings.
