Hi crew, D. thanks for reminding me about luck and observation. Stand by tickets waiting is quite social as people share their tales of woe and available options to consider because the next confirmable flights were 4 days out.
I was thinking I'd take Amtrak, but my partner back @ homequarters reported they were full, too. Then someone said he's rent a car if he didn't get on. I offered to join him and share expenses and driving. That's what we did. $60 Urber/Lyft from San Francisco to Oakland car rental (they were sold out at SFO). Then around $380 for rental, gas, and food, $440 total.
After 2.5 hours queuing, we rented a mazda and he drove (I served to keep him awake) 12 hr to Olympia. Arriving at 5:30 am. My partner drove south from HQ in Seattle and picked me up and drove home. From 2 directions we arrived with 10 minutes of each other.
The weather had cleared enough that we only had a few sprinkles and alternative patches of fog/clear driving.
Lucky R.
