So frustrated... D's new p-doc prescribed her Focalin, a stimulant (ADHD med). She prescribed it at 5 mg, but did the prescription so that we could go up to 10 if it's OK the first week. CVS didn't fill it, so I called them. They said that our insurance doesn't allow prescriptions in the way she wrote it, with twice a day. That we needed a preauthorizatin of some sort for that. So now we probably have to wait until Tuesday (with weekend and holiday) for them to talk to the doctor. When we wanted to try it out this weekend before she goes back to school.
I asked if we could just pay out of pocket, and they quoted us $400! I checked online, and that's the price for the brand-name, where the generic should be $20-$75 (we'd be willing to pay $75 and bill for reimbursement). So now I'm confused as to whether they're trying to give us the brand name. Especially because when I google the drug (I think it's the XR version), the price quoted for CVS is about the same as what they told me. It's just so frustrating...Might call in the morning and check on brand-name vs. generic (it is available as generic).
Just really frustrated, as I was hoping we could start on this soon. Don't know if it will help, but if it doesn't, then we could move to something else sooner... She'd said an option, if this doesn't help with aggression, is to add a low dose of clonidine. But to get there, I guess we have to first try this at the original dose, then go up a week later. Just worried about her at school....
