I had been watching my 2-year-old grandson full-time for almost 2 months and I'm on social services. What an embarrassment. I find myself needing to get back into the workforce, however I don't know what to apply for where to go or if I will even last that long when I do find a job. I'm so confused. I do have a job coach (I guess she is I'm not quite sure what she is). But she's so freaking cheery and Uber positive that I just can't deal with her sometimes LOL she talks about how excited she is and how she has faith in me but she doesn't even know me.

Anyways I'm confused. Here we go again to the part-time, underpaid, Hanging-On-by-a-thread, can't pay my bills on time, let's see if I can hold on to this one long enough, job search
I commiserate with you on having many jobs, being middle aged (I'm 52) and currently unemployed. My daily mantra is, "what can I pay today and what can I postpone paying?" And, my student loan repayment starts this summer.

(1) Join some temp agencies.

(2) Against my will, I also suggest substitute teaching (I hated it after so many years) since its flexible and you don't need any training except a college degree.

(3) Pick a part-time job that you think you'd enjoy doing while you can still baby sit your grandson. Work in a flower shop. Do freelance writing. Work at a science museum. Work for a nonprofit. There's so many options. Try to avoid places that gatekeep jobs with 20-something recruiters who commit ageism without a care in the world.

Job coach's are not helpful esp. if you get one through Easter Seals or a workforce center since they aren't in the workforce they are detached from reality.

Your job coach, sorry to say, is clueless, since her job is to cheerlead you (toxic positivity) as you try to re-enter the workforce. It's annoying. I empathize with you b/c I went through the same baloney.

Hang in there. I feel your frustration. I'm in the same boat.
Thanks for this!
