Sorry. Not much help as I panic easily about almost everything. The feeling probably doesn't fit the medical definition. But my heart can pound so fast and loud I can both feel and hear it!

Standing water in the sink, car won't start, potential bread shortage, no service, black screen on computer, etc. Panic, panic, panic.

For me it depends on the situation. Sometimes telling myself I don't know for SURE what's going on. Or distract myself by thinking of something totally unrelated such as what's good to make for dinner next week. Or wondering if the final book on a trilogy I'm reading is out yet.

Living alone a knock on the door will make me freeze. There's no business anyone has with me, except possible maintenance but I'd know if they were coming. Still, that sound is unnerving.

Experts tout taking a deep breath which may or may not help, depending on the moment. Sometimes I try to focus on what's going around me or what do I see or does it feel hot/cold/warm where I am.
