Does anyone know why a lot of young people especially those under age 20, write u instead of you and r instead of are? I know what they are saying but it’s just two more letters in both cases.

This is mostly in texts but also could be emails. I see stuff on tv shows too that I have to look up. It’s a whole other language in a way.
