I believe that we can sometimes assess our own mental wellness by how our children live their lives. I also have 2 adult children (now in their 30's) who are living successful lives. I am very proud of them, but also proud of myself for having broken the abusive family cycle I came from.
I absolutely love poetry and used to write poetry. I also facilitated a women's poetry group for a year. That was a powerful experience. How exceptional that your wife is also interested in poetry.
And, I have studied Zen Buddhism fairly extensively. My studies were in my 30's. I am now 60 and still find those studies applicable to my life.
You and I have quite a bit in common.
