I did this back in '02 and really loved learning. I never learned well back in my teens but at 38 in 2002, I bought 3 guitars and a small amp and took lessons. Has been great. Getting the guitar is one thing - but playing songs you like is tremendous. Plus, once you start to improvise, you really feel good since you're letting out emotions in a new way.
