Just today I was looking at websites here in Czech Republic for cat adoptions. Most of the places are ones that take in stray cats or kitties whose human parent was no longer able to care for them (or passed on). The Czech people at those places weren't that great at marketing them, though. I was shocked by how they referred to some as "brats" and other negative names. It is the case that many are being nursed for horrible maladies from being strays, and even PTSD. I imagine the cats at PetSmart are hopefully healthy. It is a hard decision for me in terms of wanting to help an animal in distress, or maybe being incapable of handling such a responsibility.

Just to let you know, my guy had ptsd when I brought him home from the shelter. He stuck to me like a burr, gobbled his food and threw it up and had horrible anxiety. But I fed him a teaspoon of food waited a few minutes fed him another teaspoon. After a while he stopped gobbling and started grazing. He calmed down a lot after about 6 months. He still will have nothing to do with doors that lead outside. But otherwise is a calm confident fellow. I hope this helps you think you can adopt a rescue. He no longer follows me on my heel but he does prefer to be in the same room. I’ve had him for over 13 years and he was around 6 when I got him. So an older cat who was traumatized. He turned out to be a great companion. Very trainable. I train all my cats to stay off kitchen counters and everything in the kitchen is off limits for safety reasons. So I hope you don’t get scared away.
