I will share my own experience with this type of service, but I believe every state is different. Anything I share may not apply to states other than Massachusetts.
I had no luck with the career resource center in my area until I figured things out on my own. I now use their website to find jobs only. If I was more persistent, they may or may not have helped me get a better job or training of some type (they lost my paper work and I couldn't be bothered to send it in again. I trusted the mail as I was not leaving the house much back then.). I am newly motivated to harrass them. Thanks to your post.
A million years ago, I used both MassRehab and a different Career Center. Mass Rehab would have paid me to go to school, but I never used the opportunity. The Career Center was a joke. I remember taking a test to find out what type of job I would be good at. I tested well in every area, so the test was useless.
I did have various jobs with the same facility for 14 years. After 9/11 I was laid off due to funding. I only know how to do one thing. That is to take care of developmentally disabled people. Although I have 14 years experience, due to my present situation, I am unable to get a job in that field. I am going to try again and have 5 resumes ready to send out. I just hope I am not setting myself up for failure again.
