Ahh.. the frustration of an ADHDers mother...unsung heroes of our world; I have a lot of respect for parents that don't give up on their ADHD children. It can and does get better. Don't worry, you'll make it through, and he probably will also.

Risperdone isn't an ADHD medication though, so it won't have any effect on the ADHD, just so you don't expect too much. What does he take that for? He must have something comorbid to the ADHD, and that can complicate things.

How old is your son?

He needs to have it reiterated to him to take the Concerta daily, or the ADHD symptoms will return just as fast as they left. It is expelled from the system in only a few hours, so I think you should point out to him in a very direct, assertive, yet caring manner that the reason he is having a difficult time and not feeling well lately is because of the rebound of the ADHD symptoms. Then you ask him why he isn't taking his Concerta, find out if it has side effects that made him shy away, and if so, get the medication adjusted at his doctors. If it's some other reason, tell him that I think your way isn't working, lets take the Concerta on a regular basis again.
Good luck to you, and don't worry--- I gave my mother hell on earth as a child, but now I'm treated--I'm in my twenties, in college and doing very well. I expect to be accepted to graduate school when undergraduate is completed. There is a light at the end of the tunnel...don't give up on him, he needs you to believe in him and be by his side.
