I used to take Atarax for sleep. It was not working very well. I stopped it. Another reason I stopped it: my psychiatrist explained that long term use of it can contribute to Alzheimer's disease later in life. I carry a gene mutation associated with Alzheimer's and I was not prepared to take this kind of heightened risk with a medication that was not even working very well and that can be replaced by other, better medicines.
