Don't believe in the law of attraction, but do believe in Joseph Campbell's idea of the Thousand Unseen Helping Hands. In other words - human goodness. If you pursue your passion, then people will naturally try to help you, especially if they are part of your "tribe" - artists will help artists, writers will help writers, and so on.

Unfortunately the idea of a "Law of Attraction" is a double edged sword. The author of The Secret fell into disrepute after she claimed that victims of a tsunami were emitting "tsunami-like vibrations." This story encapsulates why the law of attraction is similar to slimy religious leaders' claims that God helped them gain power/get rich, or whatever. It's too easy to fall into a "blame the victim/reward the lucky" mentality - where if you're poor you must deserve it and if you're rich you must deserve it.

Also unfortunately - the universe can kick people who are down. Fortune not only favours the bold - it favours the attractive, the young, the well-connected, those with money and physical and psychological health. Someone can fall on hard times through no fault of their own, and may find their friends abandon them.

But the thousand helping hands are still out there. You just need to keep reaching for them.
