Well the call center I work in (I am on disability but technically still employed) has become a Hell hole due to UNrealistic expectations and micro managing. Five years ago things were different. I mean there have always been "metrics" like average handle time, post-call work, compliance, attendance, punctuality, break adherence and so on. But you never used to even hear about them unless there was a major issue like you were coming in late each day. Now, every statistic is dissected. If you are more than 30 seconds late from a break 3 times in a month, you are "off track" and that could lead to termination. And there are lots of computer issues that can cause you to be a few seconds off.

Plus there is a lot more to be done before and after your shift, which you don't get paid for. The union (since my job is unionized) is trying to address these changes, but unions aren't as powerful as people think especially in the face of massive technological change.
