Everything we do has a functional purpose. My guess would be that you do this to try to get help. You can also ask directly for help. It's hard to believe if you grew up not being able to ask for help, but try it out here and with people you didn't grow up with, and see. You do need help with whatever is making you feel the need to do these things. And it is ok to need help.
