Here is Canada drug ads are subjected to a lot of rules. The ads (mostly Viagra) I have seen are nothing like the US kind. I've been to the US and have noticed the copious amount of ads on local television. -- I think patients expect a script. Prescribing a pill is easy and a quick fix. Medicine is structured this way and its turning us into lifelong patients.

I've noticed psychiatry can promote dependence and start a cycle of admissions and prescriptions especially in vulnerable people (who tend to have a background in trauma). They end up being psychopathologized and medicated when it isn't warranted.
