Most I've ever been on is eight meds, though that's for both physical and mental health. I'm currently on five meds long term, with lithium and Lamictal covering my mental health. The other three meds cover high blood pressure, gout prevention and bile dumping from my liver.
I've never been fond of being a walking pharmacy either, but on the mental health side at least, my PsychNP made it a point to try treat my symptoms with as few meds as possible at as low an effective dose as possible. Now, if the situation called for it, he would definitely increase the dose or add a med as needed. I appreciated that he had no interest in unnecessarily overmedicating me.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
