I'm so sorry to hear your mum has nodules on her thyroid. My mother does too and we were very stressed out about it, she had a biopsy then she went for a another scan and check up and asked the doctor was causes it and he said,"No one really knows. It's quite common." He said this in a nonchalant kind of manner. So we did a lot of worrying for nothing. We are still concerned, but our level of worry dropped by several notches. I'm not saying that that's your mum's case, but if you can go to the doctor with her and ask some questions and write down the answers. When does your mum have to go back? Mine is in a year from now.

It's also tragic that your dad is treating your mum so poorly. Stress can cause a lot of bodily functions to go out of whack. Did I understand correctly that that don't live together anymore?

Keep talking to your mum, maybe some of what you say will get through, but be gentle with her... you don't want to add to her stress.
