@Tiddytok5 welcome to MSF - I am sorry for your loss. That sounds like it is bringing up lots of emotions.
I find that my grief is like a well that once it is tapped, grief flows out whenever somene dies or I get triggered. It is part of our nature to grieve the loss of those we love and or care for. To me that is just part of life.
When I try to hold onto to a relationship that has ended in any way, that seems to be rooted in selfishness for me. I try to let go but sometimes, that is difficult.
I wrote some letters to my parents when they died expressing what I am grateful for that they did for me. Having gratitude and expressing that has helped me let go.
