I have worked from home for a long time, since way before the pandemic. I do freelance writing, translation and research. I like it. I focus better and can set up my home office the way I want. The last time I had to go to an office for three months for training, before I was allowed to work from home, I had a hellish commute. I was always tired. It was also an open office plan, which made it so hard to concentrate. I was seated by the loudest woman who was on the phone all the time.
It's definitely not for everyone. You have to be disciplined. Also, some people don't like the lack of interaction with others. Not everyone has a good space to work from either.
My husband is a lawyer working for a government agency that serves people that can't afford an attorney. He has been working at home since the pandemic. He's hoping to be able to go back to the office soon. He feels like it's easier to explain things to people in person. Also, not everyone has access to the technology they need receive services online.
