But it's something we already know - we just refuse to acknowledge because it's too much "fun" for non-Indians to dress up like Indians and pretend to be either "noble," "savage," or "brave." It's too much fun for the opponents to simulate real warfare using these mascots - attempting to kill them off week after week.

It makes me angry that a handful of Lakota have been placed with this responsibility of teaching society about respect. They have enough real and tragic issues going on in their lives.

One very dear friend of mine was toggling between a dying mother in her home and a brother in a hospital ICU. She was forced to drop everything to attend a meeting at UND to explain YET AGAIN why it's offensive. If she hadn't, they would have assumed it's not an issue for the native community there - or they would have accused her of being too "lazy" to attend the meeting.
