Kortni, is my daughter in law if they were married. To me they are.
She also gets ssi, just like Harmony my granddaughter, who has autism.
Harmony is 6 1/2 now. And will be in 1st grade, but is starting in what
they call the life skills classroom because her autism is so severe that
she cant handle a full 1st grade classroom yet. Were hoping as the
year goes on that more and more of the 1st grade can be added. But
she will always be behind in this class as the years go by.
She can do the math. And I'm pretty sure she will be able with help
to do a lot of the reading. But her speech is mainly to repeat what
she hears at this point still . So we are working with her still.
And she isn't potty trained yet. But that isn't unusual for an autistic
child. And my son wasn't till he was 5, and heading into kindergarten.
Because he had what is called tacticile discrimnation. Which I'm
guessing she does too to a degree.
She definely has a lot of the same things they both have. The anger issues,
but its hard to determine if her's are autistic, or explosive disorder. Her's
are just starting to come out. So we will keep a eye out and make sure
they dont get lots worse.
