I agree, it can be addictive. I don't do the ''likes'' thing. Well, what I mean is, I rarely post anything on my page. But I do click ''like'' to a few good friends if I see something that resonates with me
I don't add people unless I need them as neighbours for a game, and that would be rare. Or occasionally, a new friend. Or even more occasionally, someone I find from long ago. (that is more difficult, and I won't go into why that is)
