When depression has you in bed all day for over a week, that is serious depression. Unfortunately, as it goes on, it becomes harder and harder to find the energy to get up. It gets so you're just about able to make it to the bathroom and back. I know. I've been there, though probably not as severe as you describe.

I think the kind of interactions you have with the people around you can be a big influence on your state of mind. Sometimes family and friends can be less than helpful. I've experienced that. Even professional medical people can underestimate how hard it is to climb out of the pit of depression. I'm starting to think that a depressed person deserves a lot of credit for the smallest of victories, like taking a shower or leaving the bedroom for an hour or taking a short walk. You may have to be your own source of encouragement, and give yourself a pat on the back for any small attempt to do something. Maybe take a small pad of paper, and write down the littlest positive thing you get done.

Right now I'm talking to myself, as well as to you, because I never got dressed today. I live alone, which has advantages and disadvantages. The best thing about being alone is that no one is looking down on me and judging me a failure. If you have family around you, their attitude can sometimes be a hindrance, if you feel judged.

I hope tomorrow, you can get up for at least a little while. Try to eat some nourishing food. Let us know how it goes.
