@mote.of.soul these are also the basis for ethical behavior no matter what your religious affiliation.
I agree they are challenging but they do set a high bar for ethical living, something that is not highly touted in modern western society that seems to be more interested in getting more and unfortunately the result of that has been enjoying it less. Anyone that questions that statement only need look at the rates of depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges facing modern societies.
The reason those guidelines are so difficult is the mind is afflicted with negative emotions. Maybe we need to focus more on those and finding a way to cultivate positive values. That also sounds challenging but I think it is doable. Let's not throw up our hands in despair but actually make a sincere effort to fix what we can and make our lives and others a little bit better. That I think is compatible with all religions including non religions.
