It never fails. Anytime I have a time crunch or an urgent deadline, someone or something will waste time that I don't have. If I'm late for work or the doctor, I will always have the youngest or oldest driver on the road in front of me driving 10mph+ under the speed limit. Or farm vehicles. If there's money involved, something unexpected and usually out of my control will happen to ensure I don't have enough when the time comes. It's Murphy's Law, yes, but it's happened so much in recent weeks that I'm starting to feel a cosmic middle finger being pointed in my direction.

My issue: the water bill. It's due today (in just a few minutes actually), but I can't pay it. Why? Two reasons. A recurring charge from my account decided to recur a day early, putting me in the red. Someone at the bank, salivating over the idea of an overdraft charge, got one on my account within the hour. Mindbogglingly quick. A $40 overdraft became $75 in the red, even though I've specifically told the bank to stop any transactions that put me under $0.

--An aside: I've never understood the purpose of an overdraft fee, even from a business standpoint. So someone doesn't have enough money in their account. Is the solution really to charge the person with no money more money (In my case, it was double the money.) until they find the money to cover the transaction (x2 now) they didn't have money for? That's fun.

Fast forward to today. I was supposed to have two commission checks related to my work deposited this morning. They're small checks, but the combined value would have covered my bill. Guess how many were deposited? One.

It's Murphy's Law, I get it, but what in the world did I ever do to Murphy??
