Try not to beat yourself up. Getting approved at the car dealership is always a guessing game, even if the person's credit is stellar. Their finance people work with banks whose loans are designed as high interest so that people get a car loan where their monthly payment goes towards 1/4 of the actual car loan and 90% of it goes to the interest.
Glad that your husband will get approved and that you two can split the car payment. It will all work out in the end.
