The US policy on oil is to use up the other world sources before using our own, however, it is now too costly to keep this policy.
It should be noted that the party opposite of the President's has controlled all of congress while the price of fuel has doubled so there is a proper place to put blame if you want to blame someone.
We need to drill here, drill now, to save money. This is a short term solution while we convert over to other means of energy. You can't expect a country that has been dependent on foreign sources to change resources overnight. This problem started in 1973 and has been allowed to continue for a long time under both parties.
The answer is not biking, walking or, taking mass transportation, the American people won't live that way and I won't live that way. Conservation is good and necessary and I do what I can but, to ask me to give up a lifestyle I strive all my life for is to ask way too much. Everyone can and should do what their conscience dictates, but to try and force or berate someone into doing what you think is necessary is totally wrong. We live in a free country, at least for now, and people have the right to live it without harassment from those that think differently.
I will do what I can, but I will not give up the things I worked hard for and saved for. Ultimately we are responsible for our own actions. If we live our lives in debt and trying to keep up with those that have it all, who's fault is that? The secret to financial success is, spend less than you earn and save for another day.
I know I get preachy on this subject, but if you know my background then you know that financial security is very important to me. I was reading a report in a financial magazine and it said that some 56% of baby boomers are not saving enough for retirement and that only 14% will be able to retire with enough assets ($$$) to sustain them till age 90. The "I gotta have it all now at any cost" is coming back to haunt some 70 million people headed for retirement. I recommend the book Start Late, Finish Rich for those that are interested in how to stop the financial bleeding and get their lives on track to living with controllable debt, if not being totally debt free. Also a recommendation is The Total Money Makeover.
My passion in life is living spiritually and living debt free. Anyone that wants to contact me is free to PM me anytime on these subjects.
