About 10 years ago I underwent Crown Lengthening. Basically your mouth is too gummy to fit a crown. So they lift your gum up.
I went to this chain (like Aspen) dentist and it was wonderful. They sat me upright and it didn't take too long. They they placed this dressing over the teeth and gum. I loved that because it was like a band aid in your mouth and it was easy to eat because I didn't have to worry about the wound.
10 years later they tell me I need to do it for 2 teeth. These teeth are just right next to the other tooth. Ok no problem
OMG... I went to this highly recommended dentist in a rich part of town. I assumed it would be way better. Nope. They sat me with my legs high and my head pointing on towards the floor (that all dentists seem to do) for the entire 2 hours that It took. That was super uncomfortable and I came out with a massive headache. Why did it take two hours... because my dentist kept leaving during my procedure to check on others. I am sitting there with my gums hanging out and bleeding and he is like tootles. This didn't happen at the chain.
I asked for a dressing and I have no idea what he did but the dressing is placed differently on the teeth and it makes it difficult to eat, and creates a taste of listerine in my mouth - all the time. I think the other one was "tasteless".
I bled all day that first day. I don't remember any bleeding with the other one. That was unpleasant and made my stomach sick.
My face remains swollen and I don't remember that with the last one.
Still have a lot of pain.
I only hope this thing doesn't turn out to be a disaster because to me... this was one of the worst dental experiences I ever had.
Finally I just don't understand the stupidity of medical care. He gave me these post op instructions that would have been better if he gave me it before... he had crazy demands like I sleep in a recliner. Um... do I have a recliner? Nope. But if you told me I could have gotten one. He was like, no soda drinks. Errr, that is all I have. He was like - -get a tea bag if you haven't stopped bleeding -- do I have tea in the house? Nope. When I should have been resting, I had to go out and get all this stuff... he should have told me this stuff before. I swear they do this because if something goes wrong they want to say you didn't comply with post op instructions. I don't remember any of this stuff from the last time.
And he was soo rough. SO rough. I have noticed this lately... I can't seem to find a dentist that has the slightest concern for you as a patient. The last time I had this done the dentist kept giving me updates on how long was left... this guy nothing. When I asked he acted like I was rushing him.
I have an appointment in a week to hopefully get the dressing off and then one in three weeks I think to get the stiches out.
