Oh I agree. Housing is seemed as a privilege here, not a right. I see more and more tents pop up at the same time as brand new high-rise, high-rent apartments. They tore down a Barnes and Noble and a warehouse type shoe store in a local shopping center, just to cram more apartments into that area.
Waiting lists are years long, criteria to qualify is strict, many landlords won't take vouchers, Covid eviction moratoriums have been lifted, etc. My building has a very high turnover and the people aren't nice. I don't know what's wrong with the people they attract to rent to.
In my area, a planned mixed-use 8 story building with 260 apartments will have just a measly 19 set aside for "low-income". Not even 1/3 of them!
