And American culture hypes up a "new" year like that guarantees things can only get better. I also stopped making New Year's Resolutions, I never keep them. If they called it "Old Year's Celebrations" I might be more receptive, since it's supposed to be about surviving the old year. And I did. It's all I do---survive each year.

Already dreading all the New Year's greetings I'm going to get, I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow. I hope my favorite cashier is working, she hates the holidays too.
