There is a short piece in the latest Scientific American about it. One thing is the claim that the sun and earth will be aligned with the galactic equator in that year, but since that equator is poorly defined anyway, all such claims that something terrible will happen should be taken with a mountain of salt.

End of world has been predicted many times. So far it hasn't happened.
