Kava kava is anxiolytic. Magnesium can be generally calming, but niacinamide is more immediate. So is the amino acid taurine.
If you want to try niacinamide, first make sure that you get the amide form of this vitamin. Plain niacin has the opposite effect. You can take up to 500 mg niacinamide up to four times a day.
Taurine is very simlar in structure to GABA, and has a similar inhibitory effect in the brain. And, unlike GABA, taurine crosses the blood/brain barrier. You can take up to 2 grams of taurine at a time, but I'd try 500 mg or 1000 first.
