I struggle with this issue too. Their mental illness & damage causes hurt & damage to others who fight back to protect themselves. This ends up putting them in a victim roll in the eyes of some where in reality that victimhood is nothing more than being held accounable for their behavior. Since when does holding someone accountable make us the bad guy? I have never understood why this happens but can see how this leads into the creation of stigmas that are not always undeserved as people tend to want to protect themselves from behaviors they know will hurt them in the future especially after having had a bad experience.
