There is English precedence, Henry the Young King was crowned while his father Henry ii was still alive, the crown reverted to Henry ii when the young king died in the war. also George iv was prince regent during the illness and final years of George iii.
Maybe it’s not fully appropriate to talk about it, but Charles will have some obstacles ahead and I hope he gets to focus on his health.
