I walked to school in elementary school. It was a few streets over from us. In the middle and high school I took public transportation. My school was quite far from home. We didn’t have school bus system. Times changed so much. I rode all kind of city buses starting age 10. I can’t imagine kids doing it now. I lived in the city snd everyone was doing it. So it wasn’t neglectful on my parents part. It was a way of life.
