I'm not sure if I can say I take Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) specifically for sleep, but without it I don't sleep.I see that medication more as a moodstabilizer, for me. When I have had sleep issues, despite that, my psychiatrist has added about 50 to 100 mg of Seroquel IR (instant release) on top of that. The "action", as I call it, is different. Being "instant release" it would knock me out better, though the XR does keep me asleep well. However, I have recently been weaned off the instant release, so again only take the extended. Even despite one or both of the above, I have occasionally taken 1 mg Ativan (lorazepam) as an extra sleep aid, but only "prn". I generally don't need it, unless I have a lot of anxiety and/or racing thoughts.I've also added that in cases where I forgot my evening medications until late at night. If I take my evening meds as late as 1 am, I won't fall asleep until 4 am, or later, but the Ativan knocks me out a bit earlier. It's important because if I take my evening meds very late I develop extra anxiety or even mild instability, regardless of usual stability.
I don't recommend Ativan as a regular sleep aid, though.
