My educated guess was infection that's now affecting her brain. The two admitting doctors taking over her care seems to be thinking the same.

I don't want to think this and I hope I'm wrong but there's a not insignificant chance this could be it. I'm not ready! Not by a long shot! Also, if she does pass, that leaves me dealing with my Dad, who does not take emotionally fraught situations well. @#$&!

I'm so sorry this is happening, @Aurelius710! I hope they can find the problem soon and that your mother recovers.
